Frame Magic – iPhone App of the Week
This is a regular feature of the blog looking at various Apps available. Some of the apps will be useful for those involved in learning technologies, others will be useful in improving the way in which you work, whilst a few will be just plain fun! Some will be free, others will cost a little and one or two will be what some will think is quite expensive.
This week’s app is Frame Magic Premium.
Your best collage maker with tons of layouts, endless options and unique decorations!
150 customizable layouts with up to 36 photos
£1.49
I have seen the results of this app many times on the Twitter and in Instagram, but I have never actually got around to using the app myself until recently.
What this app does simply is to create a collage of images, either from your camera or from a collection on your phone. You can then share the resulting collage on social networks, via e-mail or save it back to your phone.
After opening the app you are faced with the default layout.
Select Frame and you are then given a very wide choice of possible frames. Once you have chosen, tap the selected frame.
You can edit and change the frame to make it your own. You can resize the frame, adjust the corners, change the margins and increase or decrease the size of the border.
There is a lot of flexibility in the design of your frame and you can make something very individual, as well as choosing from the wide selection available in the app.
You can also change the background colour from the default white to something else, black works well, but you might want your collage to fit into something else.
As well as colours, you could have a pattern instead, or even upload your own.
Once you’ve sorted the frame (and you can of course edit it later once the photographs are in place) you need to add the photographs. To start the process, simply tap one of the empty frames.
As you might expect, you can get images from your Photo Albums. You can Take New photographs. Multi-Camera allows you to immediately fill all the empty frames in quick succession or tap and hold to fill all the empty frames with the same image.
There is a photo editor included with the app so you can adjust the image, apply filters and quite a few other things too.
You can change the “paper size” from the default square to A4 or another ratio. This makes it much easier to create a collage for a specific space or purpose. Changing the ratio or paper size will mean that the frames will change in size accordingly so that your collage continues to fit the page.
You can also add text or stickers.
There are various text options available and you can adjust the typeface, font, colour, size and style. You can rotate the text to fit it into the collage how you wish.
There are also a range of (slightly tacky) stickers that you can also use to “enhance” your collage.
Once you have finished putting your collage together you can share it via various services including e-mail, MMS, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, as well as saving to your device’s camera roll.
You can get quite high image resolutions, so they could be printed if required.
Overall this is a pretty easy to use app to create image collages and works well when a single image just won’t do.
Get Frame Magic Premium in the iTunes App Store.
There are two other versions of Frame Magic in the iTunes Store, Frame Magic, which is £0.69, and Frame Magic Lite, which is free. Both of these allow you to try out the app and then through in-app purchase buy the features that are included in the Premium version of the app.
